This North Sewickley Family Means Business
When you think of family traditions, what comes to mind? A lot of people might say that they go to Myrtle Beach every year or that they host THEE community Christmas party. Regardless of the “what” or “where”, with the fast paced world we live in today, I am sure many of you can agree that it is definitely refreshing to slow down and spend time with family the ole’ fashioned way.
Milk House Meats
For a local North Sewickley family, tradition points to something uniquely different from the typical beach vacation. A few times throughout the winter months, butchering hogs has been how the Pflugh family comes together. This tradition has been carried on for countless years now and over time has evolved into the family business(es); this is especially true in the past year for Riverside graduate, Freddie Pflugh.
Pflugh is a 4th generation meat cutter, and he fondly remembers learning everything he knows from those that led before him. For eight years, he eagerly learned alongside his grandfather, father, and uncles, while working the family business at Paul’s Market. In July 2015, Freddie opened Milk House Meats, the newest result from this longstanding family tradition.
“When the time was right, we just felt like it was the right thing to do. It’s a slow dying trait that we want to keep going in our family.” – Pflugh
With July 14th marking their one year anniversary, Milk House Meats quickly became equated with quality as the newest supplier of farm raised and hand cut meats in the area. Specializing in fine beef, pork, lamb, and wild game, Freddie describes that there is a sense of pride that comes with providing customers with high quality meats raised here in western PA; he tells us that local meats also bring a different taste and texture – something any customer of the store can attest to.
While this business may be located in a rural part of a small area, its name is bound to stretch well beyond North Sewickley. Even though Freddie’s shop is still somewhat new, locals applaud it time and time again for its quality and variety of products. The atmosphere gives you a sense of true passion and raw dedication; their meats give you a sense of talent and cravings for more. You’ll walk in a stranger, and you’ll leave feeling like an old friend, only wondering when you can make your next trip back.
“I pretty much ate an entire bag of cheddar beef sticks I bought within a couple hours. Recommending them would be a severe understatement.” – Jaclyn, first time customer
